Bolu şehri, kurulduğu dönemden itibaren önemli bir yerleşme sahası olup, birçok tarihi
dönemden geçerek günümüze ulaşmıştır. Bolu şehri mahallelerine ait en eski kaynaklar XVI. yüzyıla aittir. XVI. yüzyıldan günümüze Bolu şehri mahallelerinin, dolayısıyla şeh‐ rin gelişimini ortaya koyarken birçok tarihi kaynak değerlendirilmiştir. Tapu Tahrir Def‐ terleri, Şer’iye Sicilleri, Temettüat Defterleri, Vilayet Salnameleri ve Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu tarafından yayınlanan veriler kullanılarak, mahallelerin şehrin fiziksel görünü‐ münde oluşturduğu etki ortaya konulmuştur. Bolu şehrinin tarihi çekirdeğini oluşturan mahallelerin bir kısmı XVI. yüzyılda, diğer bir kısmı da tarihi süreç içerisinde kurularak günümüze ulaşmıştır. Bolu Belediyesi’nden ve çeşitli kurumlardan elde edilen verilerle şehir mahallelerinin Cumhuriyet dönemindeki seyri de ifade edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Elde edilen bilgilere göre şehir önce güneye doğru ilerlemiştir. Şehrin güneyinde fay hattı, doğusunda ise sanayi bölgeleri, askeri alan ve cezaevinin bulunması nedeniyle yerleşme bu yönlerde sınırlanmıştır. Şehirde yerleşme kuzey ve batı yönlerinde ilerlemektedir.
The city of Bolu has been an important settlement area since its foundation and witnessed many historical periods. The oldest sources of the quarters of Bolu belong to the XVIth century. A number of historical sources have been evaluated in revealing the development of quarters of Bolu and thus the city. Tapu Tahrir registers, Şer’iye Sicil’s, Temettüat registers, annuals of city and data pub‐ lished by Turkey Statistics Institution used while cityʹs quarters effects has been demonstrated in the physical appearance of the city. Some of the quarters that make up the historical core of Bolu were founded in the XVIth century, the other part of the historical process has been founded and reached today. With the data obtained from Bolu Municipality and various institutions, the course of the city quarters in the period of republic was tried to be expressed. According to the information obtained, the city first expanded to the southern direction. Due to the fault line in the south of the city and the industrial areas, military area and the prison in the east, the settlement was limited in these directions. Settlement in the city expands to the north and the west directions at present.
