Özet

The aim of this study is to determine the impact of pavement thickness and modified asphalt mix on pavement performance. Experimental, numerical, and parametric studies were performed. In the experimental stage, the mechanical properties and performance of the road pavements subjected to traffic loads were examined for different exposure times and analyzed based on current standards. In the numerical stage, a total of twelve finite element models corresponding to unmodified hot mix asphalt (HMA) and modified stone mastic asphalt (SMA) road pavements with different thicknesses were designed. The relationship between stress and strain values was examined using numerical analyses. Vertical-lateral stresses and strains between the pavement, base, and sub-base layers were obtained from finite element models. In the final stage, the stress and pavement thickness relationships were determined by regression analysis using twelve numerical models. The results revealed that SMA pavements have high strength, impermeability, and homogenous structure with higher resistance against wear and plastic deformation compared to HMAs.
