Kent fonksiyonu kavrami genel olarak ele alindiginda, bir kentin devamliligini
sürdürmesinde, gelismesinde ve çevresiyle sürekli olarak iletisim halinde bulunmasinda önemli
bir yeri olan, kentte ve çevresinde bulunan kaynaklarin dogru bir sekilde kullanilmasini
saglayan, islevler ve faaliyetler bütünü olarak tanimlanabilir.
Kentler, kendi yerlesim alanlarina oldugu gibi çevrelerindeki yerlesmelerde yasayan
insanlara da çesitli sekillerde hizmetler vermektedir. Bu hizmetler çesitli organizasyonlar

yerlesmeleri incelendiginde genis anlamda büyük bir veri yogunluguyla karsi karsiya
kalinmaktadir. Ayni zamanda karmasik olan bu yogun verilerden daha fazla yararlanmak ve

When urban function concept is taking into consideration in general sense, it is
integration of functions and activities having an important place fan survived of continuity of a
urban as well as its development, improvement and to be in communication continuously with its
environment and assuring resources existing is the urban and its environment in proper and right
manner.
Urban as in case of its own settlement areas, render services in various ways to people
living in settlement places located in its environment. These services are provided by different,
various organizations. For this reason, number of functions existing in a urban bears very great
importance. From this viewpoint, meaning of function variety in urbans is rendering more
services.
When city or in other words urban settlements being an important branch of settlement
geography are examined and studied, in widest sense, large data concentrations are encountered.

time as well as to establish relations among events and to interpret the same, it is necessary to
bring them forth absolutely into forum with system. To affect this there will be requirement for a
system in which arrangements can be made more conveniently and comfortably.
As it is well known, Geographical Information Systems, which are accepted as the most
important data technology of our present century, can be used and applied in many fields
including training and educational institutions, establishment, companies and local
administrations.
This system having ability to put urban functions forth and to maintain information under
control in far many fields plays a significant role for achieving location-environment
communication as well as grants opportunity and possibility to act with coordination and
planning logic and reason in application of geographical information. In this sense, it is a topic to
realize urban services in more reasonable, correct, proper way with high quality and being in
peace with respective environment through use of location and time in the best manner. For this
reason, demand for persons having knowledge related to geographical information systems is
increasing every passing day both in public sector and private sector.
